FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Toronto, October 28, 2018 – Originally composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847, “O Holy Night” was originally set to French poem “Minuit Chretiens!” (Midnight, Christians). Now commonly titled “Cantique de Noel,” the English version was famously translated by John Sullivan Dwight, and has become one of the most popular Christmas carols of all time.

Taking on such a masterpiece, ViVA Trio has gone the distance. Producing not one, but two complete versions of the song, complete with full-length music videos, shot on different days at different locations.

The trio first unveils their English version, which features different cadenzas then it’s French counterpart. Both versions were fully orchestrated by Conductor and Arranger Dmitry Konovalov, and vocally arranged by the trio themselves. Working tirelessly to edit, mix and produce both versions, was the industry’s award-winning producer, Dima Graziani, who has produced over a hundred full studio albums. To add this incredible team, both tracks feature world-renowned solo violinist Vasyl Popadiuk.

Set to release November 15th, the music video for their English ‘O Holy Night’ was captured in studio in Mississauga, with clean white, dazzling effects and beautiful close ups. Working with Braeden Johnson of True View Productions and Asya Akhoundov of AA-Studios, ViVA Trio captured this stunning video and images.

ViVA Trio’s English-French version of “O Holy Night” honours the trio’s Canadian roots and the history of the carol. “With our classical background, it felt fitting to sing in both French and English. Singing in other languages is second nature for all of us,” said Erin Fisher, mezzo-soprano of the group. Soprano, Anna Bateman chimes “When we have a chance to sing in a song’s original language, we always do. In live performance, we regularly perform French songs.”

For their second music video, featuring French, ViVA shot on location at Scarborough’s Guildwood Park and took full advantage of the magnificent stonework standing in this 18th Century style garden. The towering Roman-inspired architecture is the perfect backdrop for their ethereal version of this famous carol. This video will release closer to Christmas on December 4th.

The trio is excited to be releasing their first Christmas single. Soprano Katya Tchoubar remarks on the release; “We wanted to go big for this first release! We all love Christmas music, and have performed for Christmas every year since we’ve been together.” Katya later hints that the trio is hoping to release a Christmas album in the future.

“O Holy Night” is so iconic and special. It is an amazing song to work on and to sing! I have performed it numerous times, and it’s amazing to be officially releasing it,” says Anna.

“Christmas has been my favourite holiday since I was a child, and I absolutely love Christmas music! I’m the person who is tuned into Christmas radio all season long, and has her Christmas tree up in November,” laughs Erin. “So I’m more than a little excited to be releasing this track in time for Christmas.”

ViVA Trio’s “O Holy Night” will have its Canadian debut live in concert for the Welland Port Colborne Concert Association in Welland, ON, Saturday, November 17that 7 pm. The trio will debut the carol in the USA with orchestra at Baltimore’s Hippodrome on Saturday, November 24that 7:30 pm.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Toronto, November 23, 2017 – “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.” Those words, so powerful and evergreen, belong to legendary singer/songwriter John Lennon. They deeply moved soprano Katya Tchoubar at a pivotal moment in her career, and she went on to form classical crossover group ViVA Trio with fellow soprano Anna Bateman and mezzo-soprano Erin Fisher.

Today, ViVA Trio repays that inspiration by issuing a dazzling new video for their cover of Lennon’s classic song “Imagine.” Featuring the 12-member ViVA Choir — comprised of aspiring young singers who study under ViVA’s three members — the video also includes performance footage captured at the famed John Lennon Wall in Prague, Czech Republic which immortalizes the late musician with fan-derived graffiti and other markings.

Arriving just ahead of the 37th anniversary of Lennon’s death on December 8, the video for “Imagine” pays tribute to a timeless song (and sentiment) while showcasing the extraordinary voices of Anna, Erin, and Katya whose operatic readings of gems from the contemporary pop/rock songbook propels their acclaimed debut album, Nothing Else Matters from which “Imagine” is drawn.

“Each of us in ViVA Trio maintains a private voice studio, where we teach students of all ages,” Katya says. “And we really wanted to showcase our talented young singers.” The video features the actual recording of the children’s choir captured at Velvet Sound Studios just outside ViVA’s Toronto base.

“Imagine” — both the original and now ViVA’s version and accompanying video— is especially symbolic for mezzo-soprano Fisher, who journeyed to the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ to see the piano John Lennon used to compose the track. “I’ve always loved the song,” Fisher says, “and the lyrics really resonate.”

“After an amazing experience performing in Poland, we headed to Prague to visit the John Lennon Wall where we spontaneously decided to sing ‘Imagine’ which we captured on video,” Anna explains. “The next day at the airport, we ran into a couple who had seen us at the Wall. We connected on Instagram, and they bought tickets to our next concert. So basically, this international song of peace and love created this synchronistic moment.”

In addition to “Imagine,” Nothing Else Matters features thrilling readings of Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World,” Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” Evanescence’s “My Immortal,” Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful Word” and the title track by Metallica, all with vocal arrangements ViVA Trio and delivered in their inimitable style. The album also includes two ViVA-penned compositions.

More magic moments, ViVA Trio will perform “Imagine” with the Milton Philharmonic Orchestra and a full choir including the ViVA Choir under the baton of Maestro Sabatino Vacca, who arranged and orchestrated the song on the album. Tickets: Saturday, December 16th at 7:30pm, at Milton Centre for the Arts. www.MiltonPhilharmonic.com

There is something deeply compelling hearing familiar classics like Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” or Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” reconfigured as ornately detailed orchestral pieces hinged on an electrifying three-part harmony.

“It’s a show,” has been said to be the best way to describe ViVA Trio and their upcoming release ‘Nothing Else Matters’ — available October 20th, 2017.

That phrase, so deceptively simple, does indeed manage to give justice to the head-spinning, heart-stopping magic of soprano Anna Bateman, mezzo-soprano Erin Fisher, and soprano and songwriter Katya Tchoubar. Crafted with a myriad of marquee composers, arrangers, orchsetrators, musicians, and even a children’s choir — a small army by any measure.

“I have dreamt of creating something like this my whole professional singing career, says Tchoubar. “I view this album as my life’s legacy. We love every moment of every track.”

“We have to connect with them emotionally,” Bateman adds regarding ViVA’s criteria for song selection. “Songs have to really lend themselves to the expanded range of classical voice. We also look for songs that have a sweeping, grand feel we think will sound great with orchestra.”

“The journey of this album was quite dynamic and every track has a story,” Tchoubar says, reflecting on the Trio’s successful crowd-funding bid to bring ‘Nothing Else Matters’ to release. “Now that it has come to fruition, it already feels like a success. I’m excited to travel the world and perform it live. To perform something of our own creation is a celebration.”
